Is Magic Real?

“Bismillah (In the name of God)”

Sitting by the window in my living room, a strange feeling game came over me. It felt like something, or someone was watching me. I felt silly, because I was alone in the apartment. However, my life has been upside down and there were a lot of unexplainable things happening to me. As a child, I used to hear people talking about black magic or the evil eye. I started to think is there some type of magical influence happening in my life? It was hard for me to accept this concept because whenever I used to hear people talking about bad things happening to them because of magic I would always say this is a lie. Now sitting alone in the living room with this uneasy sensation, I wonder if magic is real.

To find the answer to that question, I decided to read all the books, and articles that I could find all about magic. Some of the reading materials were scary. There were books that I soon as I touched them made me feel afraid. Many reading materials had some type of proof that suggested that magic was real. But none of them could provide the answer that I was looking for which was ; where does magic come from?

My life had become bitter, and I really wanted the answer to that question. So, I decided to visit go voodoo priest and ask him where does magic come from. I took with me for this faithful appointment one day after work. The place was for a train and a bus to get there. At the time of the appointment my friend waited for me call mom in the waiting room while I was laid to the basement for the meeting.

As I entered the room come on it felt warm. There was a man sitting on chair against the wall with a lot of candles around him. He motioned for me to sit on the chair across of him. He spoke with voice.” I charge $25 for the first visit”

 I replied, “no problem.”

 Then, he asked “What can I do for you?”

 I said, “ I have read a lot of books about magic and also, I have heard a lot of talks about magic, such as how people use magic to hurt others. Right now, I feel like there is a certain type of magical thing that is happening in my life, and I would like to know how to deal with it. “

“That was very wise of you to research and to look for help. How can I help you?”

 I replied,” can you please tell me where does magic come from?”

 First, he shook his head and smiled.  Suddenly with a hard facial expression and a serious stare that made me feel uncomfortable.

He asked; “is this why you came to see me?”

 I replied” yes.”

 “In that case” he said, “please take your friend and leave here and never come back.”

 I looked at him and said “really?”

he said “yes” in a harsh voice I opened my bag to take out the money to pay for the consultation. He stood up and said” keep your money I don’t want anything from you just leave and don’t come back here.”

As we were leaving the place, my friend asked, “did you get what you needed?”

I told her “No he could not help me.” She laughed and said “I don’t believe in these people I know you would not be able to help you, but I didn’t want to discourage you. As far as I am concerned, they are all thieves and liars.”

That question never left my mind nor did his reaction.  I couldn’t explain why he reacted the way he did, but I always knew the answer was there I just needed to keep on searching. After a while, I gave up, in fact at some point I even forgot about that question until one day I was reading the Holy Quran, I saw the answer. I was surprised because by now I have been reading the Quran for at least five years I have never seen it. I am certain that I read that passage before, but it did not register until that day. Here is the passage.

“And they followed what the devils taught during the reign of Solomon. It was not Solomon who disbelieved, but it was the devils who disbelieved. They taught the people witchcraft and what was revealed in Babylon to the two angels Harut and Marut. They did not teach anybody until they had said, “We are a test, so do not lose faith.” But they learned from them the means to cause separation between man and his wife. But they cannot harm anyone except with God’s permission. And they learned what would harm them and not benefit them. Yet they knew that whoever deals in it will have no share in the Hereafter. Miserable is what they sold their souls for, if they only knew.” (Surah 2 vs.102)

I suppose all the efforts that I put into finding the answer were not wasted. I couldn’t find the answer before because I was not ready for it. Do you believe in magic? Whether it’s yes or no, this is what you have to know. God gave us proof but not only that, but He also showed us the cost of magic. Whether you decide to use the knowledge or ignore it is totally up to you. Remember all your life has a purpose that is Believe in God, strengthen your faith, be sincere in all of your actions and be mindful of your actions. After all, God is always present.
