“Bismillah (In the name of God)”

Have you ever been so worried or angry that you felt like your heart was about to burst? It’s ridiculous for someone to even think of asking such a question.  However, if you are honest with yourself, you will find out that these moments are common in everyone’s life. It is so common that even children experience it.

How does this feeling come?

It arrives when you are worried.

When you think you are in trouble.

When you are hurt by someone’s words or action.

When you have a problem and you don’t know what to do.

How can you get rid of this feeling?

You search everywhere for peace such as in people, daily routines, exercises and distractions. But Allah tells us where true calm lives:

“Surely, in the remembrance of Allah (God) do hearts find rest.” (13:28)

When you are facing this kind of emotional imbalance, it becomes difficult to concentrate so you can bring calmness into your heart. However, with faith and patience bringing peace into your heart is possible.

Why is remembering Allah (God) important in your time of distress?

Allah (God) is the source of peace. He is the Provider and the Sustainer.  When things are not going well, it can become difficult to pray or even think of Allah (God) because the emotion that is control your body is so powerful.  That is the time to put everything aside, call Allah (God) and put your trust wholeheartedly in Him as you are asking for His help and guidance.

Your heart was created to remember Allah. When it drifts, restlessness follows. When it returns, peace settles in.

What does remembering Allah (God) look like?

You can remember Allah (God) by reciting Quranic verses that you like, read the Quran, repeat different dhikr. If you are a Christian, you might recite psalms 23 and 27.

This year, let Ramadan be your return to dhikr.

Ask yourself

  1. What brings rest to my heart?
  2. How often do I remember Allah daily?
  3. What dhikr can I repeat today?

Prayer

O Allah, fill my heart with Your remembrance and peace. Ameen
