“Bismillah (In the name of God)”
Ramadan is not just a month of fasting—it is a sacred invitation to return. To return to our Creator. To return to ourselves. To return to the truth that we are never alone, forgotten, and without guidance.
Surah Al-Fatihah— The first chapter of the Quran is also our we recite every day, in every prayer but, we don’t really take the time to feel or understand what we are saying especially if you don’t understand Arabic. But this Ramadan, let us take the time to quietly read the words and give them a place in our hearts.
“You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help.” (Qur’an 1:5)
This verse captures the essence of our theme: Reconnect and Rely on God.
To reconnect means to acknowledge how far our hearts may have drifted—through distractions, worries, sins, or spiritual dryness. To rely on means to surrender our burdens to the One who already knows them.
If you honestly check on your actions, your thinking process, the role that the society where you live plays, you will realize that when you have any types of problem or difficulty in your life, Allah (God) is never the first thought that comes to your mind. Therefore, He is not the one you call on first.
Ramadan gives us a chance to start over. No matter how long we have been away, Allah is near us. The door of mercy is open and the road back to Him is short.
Each verse of Al-Fatihah reminds us:
- Allah (God) is Merciful
- Allah (God) is Master of the Day of Judgment
- Allah (God) is our Guide
- Allah (God) is our Support
When we say, “Guide us to the straight path,”
we are asking for direction. The question that we are asking Allah (God) in every prayer is How do I get close to You? How do I please You?
Allah (God) have given each one of us time, blessings, love, family and many other things. Let today be the day you stop running and start returning and start working on having a close relationship with your Lord and sustainer.
Ask yourself
- What has distracted my heart from Allah?
- What does “relying on God” mean in my life right now?
- What am I asking Allah to guide me through this Ramadan?
Prayer
O Allah (God), return my heart to You.
Make me among those who trust You fully and walk toward You sincerely.
