“Bismillah (In the name of God)”

How many times do we think of giving charity or helping someone in need? However, we let go of the idea because we talked ourselves out of it by saying, “I can’t right now.” “I will do that when I have money.” “What I have to give is too little.” And so on.  Sometimes, we underestimate the value of our actions and forget about our purpose in life and our intention for performing the act. However, Allah (God) remind us:

“The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah (God) is like a seed [of grain] that sprouts seven ears; in every ear is a hundred grains. Allah multiplies [the reward] for whom He wills.” (2:261)

Whenever I read this verse, The grain that always come to my mind is a corn kernel (Seed). Imagine planting one little seed and it grows into a corn plant and seven ears of corn grow from that plant and each corn a hundred grains.  Now, imagine replanting all the grains that came from that corn plant. Can you see the size of the field and the harvest that will come from the original investment?

Even small acts of kindness, charity, or sincere words are magnified by Allah (God). No effort is wasted when done for Him. Charity is one of the pillars of Islam.  Allah (God) will never ask us to do something that we are incapable of achieving.  That’s why being grateful for who we are and what we have is necessary so we can easily let go of our limiting thinking and belief and wholeheartedly rely on Allah (God) and trust His words and wisdom.

What is the most important thing that we need to keep in mind?

The most important thing that we need to remember and strive for Allah (God) is to do good work or live a righteous life.  This is how Allah (God) remind of its importance:

As for those who believe and lead a righteous life—We will not waste the reward of those who work righteousness. (18:30)

Ramadan encourages us to be intentional with every good act, knowing Allah (God) see and reward even the smallest deeds.

Ask yourself

  1. What small act of kindness can I do today?
  2. How can I spend my time or resources in the way of Allah (God)?
  3. Am I consistent with my good deeds?

Prayer

O Allah (God), accept my deeds, multiply my good actions, and make me a source of benefit to others. Ameen
